Do Geese attack humans, and Could I punch them in self-defence?

Geese are territorial, especially when it comes to their nesting grounds. This is because they have been conditioned to protect their own family, and as ground nesters, they extend this protection to: ‘you’re not one of my family members, so go away.’

Don’t be fooled by the idea that “the great majority of birds” don’t attack humans. Many, if not most, non-hardcore ‘flock’ birds will attack you if they believe you’re harmful and can persuade you to leave their territory. However, the vast majority of the exceptions are species that do not consider you a potential predator.

If you don’t spot a nest, one may be close by. Most goose assaults on people result in minor or no injuries, although severe ones can occur. Goose attacks have resulted in fractured bones, head trauma, and emotional upset.

Now, if you can defend yourself against a goose? I assure you that facing off with a goose is not a smart idea! If there are more than one of them, they’ll overpower you, and believe me when I say that face-to-beak is far worse!
